New York À La Française

The new Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s offers a taste of Paris in Tribeca

Sponsored by

Unveiled to great fanfare this September, the new Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s brings a potent dose of Parisian chic to a red-bricked façade in New York City’s vibrant Tribeca neighbourhood. The latest revelation in the Barrière Group’s portfolio – which includes legendary hostelries like St Barths’ Le Carl Gustav, Courchevel’s Les Neiges, Le Majestic in Cannes and Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s Paris – the eight-story hotel’s interiors benefit from the deft artistic vision of Swedish interior-design superstar Martin Brudnizki, who fuses the neighbourhood’s modern-industrialist aesthetic with an Art Deco touch to stunning effect.

The hotel’s 97 guest rooms – including the two-storey Le Grand Appartement Terrasse – are plush, light-flooded visions in lavender, outfitted with elegant Deco-inspired furniture and intriguing custom wallpaper depicting scenes from Tribeca (like a pigeon carrying a croissant or women donning Birkin bags). Likewise melding French joie de vivre with the eclectic vibe of the neighbourhood is the hotel’s Fouquet’s New York. Decked out in shades of red and black, the chandelier-lit eatery does its legendary Parisian namesake proud, thanks in part to the visionary culinary stylings of Michelin-gilded chef Pierre Gagnaire, who adds a subtle New York twist to classic brasserie fare from steak tartare and escargots to sole meunière and onion soup. The heady scene is furthered at the speakeasy-style Titsou Bar, modelled after the Bar Marta at the group’s Paris location, and the Par Ici Café, which serves delectable veggie-focused dishes in a glassed-in courtyard.

Meanwhile, the Spa Diane Barrière – named after the hotel group’s late chairwoman – furthers the hotel’s extravagant offerings. Anchored by a tempting menu of Biologique Recherche treatments that focus on dermo-cosmetic health and regeneration, there is also a gym with top-of-the-line Technogym equipment and DOGPOUND personal trainers, a beautiful pool and a hammam. A tranquil urban oasis that encapsulates the savoir-faire of the hotel.
