This place doesn't do things by half. Before shutting down in 2008, interiors were sold off and a demolition party held. On reopening, the building was well and truly reborn – as a thoroughly modern, urban refuge designed by Philippe Starck. Focused squarely on a sophisticated, yet unconventional clientele, the hotel now houses an art gallery, hosts exhibitions and runs an artist in residence programme.
