Kusakabe
Japanese rations in the Financial District

Known for its vast bounty of fresh fish, Bay City has always been fertile ground for Japanese restaurants. What sets this sushi joint in the Financial District apart from the horde is its unique concept: with food served kaisaki style (the Japanese answer to Western haute cuisine), a trip here is a multi-course affair prepared by Michelin-starred, Kyoto-born chef Mitsunori Kusakabe (Nori). Guests surrender their right to choose: the eatery follows the Japanese principle of omakase, wherein the selection of entrees is left entirely up to the chef.
