Himkok
World-class sustainable mixology in the Norwegian capital
Its name may mean “moonshine” in Norwegian, but this bar is an Oslo institution – and not to mention frequently voted among the world’s best bars since its inception over five years ago.
You might miss the hidden entrance – look for a door below a blue light next to Youngsgate 2 – but this multifaceted space, housed in one of the oldest brick buildings downtown, spans several levels (and counters) both inside and out, while also operating as a craft distillery producing aquavit, gin and vodka.

Sustainability takes precedence here, so naturally the on-site distillery provides the base for many of the drinks (nearly 80%), but a greenhouse also provides plants and herbs for the drinks and the fare alike. Enjoy one of the Himkok’s seriously experimental Nordic cocktails – many feature unexpected ingredients like truffle seaweed or “brown cheese” – from one of their extremely talented mixologists for a truly “Viking” taste in the Norwegian capital.
