Ahead of the Game

Unveiled on the eve of this year’s F1 British Grand Prix, the updated Prodrive Racing Simulator shows the engineering group is still in pole position

Over the last four decades, Prodrive’s innovative engineering has been the driving force behind major racing wins, from Le Mans to the World Rally Championships. The technologies it develops have been applied across the automotive, aerospace and marine industries. It is one of the biggest companies operating in motorsports today, and one of the most successful.

So, when it released its racing simulator in 2022, following the vision of chairman and ex-F1 team principal David Richards, it was no video game. The Prodrive Racing Simulator is a tool for drivers, and a tantalisingly accurate taste of the track for enthusiasts, featuring an accurate recreation of a mechanical pedal box, a 49in curved screen and a Precision Sim Engineering LM Pro steering wheel complete with motor feedback.

It also doesn’t look like a video game, but rather a striking art piece; something to put on display, not banish to the game room. Combining unparalleled performance with artistic sensibility, automotive designer Ian Callum encased the simulator in a sleek, sculptural hoop of steam-formed beech that will be at home in the most elegant of interiors.

Released this week, the 2025 update maintains the best of the original while enhancing it through partnerships with traditional British ateliers and industry leaders. The design maintains the distinctive hoop, crafted by British yachting firm Pendennis, which surrounds a carbon-fibre monocoque that can be customised to the client’s tastes. The leather seat is now made by tanner and currier Connolly, following the buyer’s choice of hue, finish and stitching, as well as the option to add a logo or stem, and the audio is by industry leaders Bang & Olufsen, at whose Mayfair flagship the simulator was revealed.

Ready to use upon delivery (a single power cable is all the set-up required), this is an invaluable skill-sharpening device for professionals, and a way for every racing lover to enjoy a first-hand experience – or perhaps some friendly competition.
