Alpine Highlights

Those seeking the most elegant – and photogenic – ski lodges in Europe need look no further than these four debuts.

Cabane Tortin, Mont Fort, Switzerland
Perched above the Tortin glacier, at 3,000 metres, this exclusive-use hideaway is accessible only by gondola, skis or snowmobile. Still, guests are well rewarded for their efforts with high-design interiors, including beds for up to eight and a walnut-lined sauna, spellbinding views from panoramic windows, and incredible ski-in/ski-out access to the legendary Four Valleys region. The ultra-isolated locale ensures perfect privacy, though a private chef, concierge and mountain guides ensure you’ll want for nothing during your sojourn.(Image: Yves Garneau)

Aman Rosa Alpina, South Tyrol, Italy
This heritage-steeped hotel implemented a range of luxe enhancements when it joined the Aman portfolio, reopening this summer with interiors spruced by starchitect Jean-Michel Gathy and refreshed dining inspired both by the region and further afield. The 1,684sq m spa is a vision to behold, especially after a day spent circumnavigating the Sellaronda ski circuit or powder-shredding through the 1,200 kilometres of pistes at the world’s largest ski region, the Dolomiti Superski.(Photo © Aman)

Chesa Marchetta, Sils Maria, Switzerland
This charming Alpine hotel – having been bought and fully revamped over four years by Artfarm, the hospitality wing of super-gallery Hauser & Wirth – is due to reopen just in time for the winter season, offering an intimate atmosphere with just 13 rooms and a restaurant showcasing seasonal ingredients in the picturesque Engadin Valley. Less than a kilometre away, a ski lift awaits to whisk you away to the Corvatsch/Furtschellas ski area, which boasts the highest mountain station in the Eastern Alps: Graubünden/Grisons at 3,303 metres.(Photo: Dave Watts)

Le Sarto, Megève, France
The Art Deco theme of the Iconic House collection’s latest property pays tribute to Henry Jacques Le Même, the architect who helped define the modern Alpine aesthetic. With a Nordic bath, outdoor pool, steam bath and gym, the seven-bed maison hôtelière is well equipped for a ski getaway between Mont d’Arbois and Mont Joly. The cobbled streets of nearby Megève, meanwhile, are lined with a mix of holiday essentials and après-ski hotspots. (Photo © Mr Tripper)
