The China Connection

From the harbour heights of Hong Kong to the serene shores of Hangzhou and the cultural heart of Beijing, Conrad Hotels reveal China's emblematic cities at their most compelling.

For the discerning traveller, choosing where to stay is inseparable from choosing how to experience a destination. Conrad Hotels' trio of properties across three of China's most iconic cities makes the choice effortless — and revelatory. In Hong Kong, a harbour-view sanctuary above the Island's thrumming CBD; in Beijing, a design-led retreat at the creative heart of the capital; in Hangzhou, an architectural landmark that evokes one of China's most enchanting urban landscapes. Three cities, three immersive experiences, all united by a commitment to placing guests at the heart of their chosen destination.

Conrad Hong Kong

In a high-energy metropolis defined by constant movement – whether between East and West, or from the past to the future – Conrad Hong Kong acts as both a hub for the city’s electric dynamism and a haven above it.

The property’s location in the Pacific Place complex on Hong Kong Island plants its feet firmly in the centre of the CBD, just a short stroll from Admiralty MTR Station and directly connected to world-class shopping, dining and entertainment, yet its lofty position on floors 40 to 61 whisks guests high above the fray – and treats them to incredible views.

Despite the timeless interiors and modern comforts throughout this iconic hotel, one might say Victoria Harbour and The Peak are the true protagonists here; captivating vistas are a standard amenity in the 513 generously sized rooms and suites, which number among the largest in the city. The same elevation that frames the harbour views also lends the hotel wellness facilities a rare sense of remove, with its 25m open-air heated pool set amid the skyline and complemented by a 24-hour Health Club and a spa with private treatment rooms.

Conveniently connected as it may be to the many culinary delights of the metropolis, Conrad Hong Kong leaves little reason to seek sustenance elsewhere. The diverse dining repertoire encompasses five restaurants and bars cooking up an array of flavours for every preference and palate, from exquisite Cantonese classics by Executive Chef Tony Wan at Golden Leaf, to sophisticated French fare from the open show kitchen at Brasserie on the Eighth, and international favourites served at Garden Café. The Lobby Lounge is the place for afternoon tea and happy-hour tipples, while Pacific Bar pours vintage Champagnes and mixes signature cocktails in an intimate setting.

Conrad Beijing

The Chinese capital is an endlessly fascinating city where ancient ceremony and contemporary ambition engage in constant dialogue – and Conrad Beijing sits at the creative cutting edge of the conversation. The hotel’s address in Sanlitun – Chaoyang District's cultural heart and the gathering ground for Beijing's fashion-forward, design-literate crowd – provides the inspiration for a property that delights in both surprising and inspiring its guests.

This is evident from the moment of arrival. The building's striking architecture evokes the structure of human nerve tissue, lending it an organic, almost cerebral quality befitting a nexus of ideas. The 289 guestrooms and suites, ranging from 46 square metres to the 388sq m Presidential Suite, provide more than enough room for the mind to wander, soothed by the refined monochrome interiors featuring ample natural materials and framing views of the city – though some of the best panoramas are to be had from the 29th-floor Executive Lounge.

The palpable creative energy continues in the hotel dining portfolio, starting with CHAPTER Culinary Library. Fashioned after an airy, European-style library with walls of books, this all-day destination is entered through its own immersive artwork: a vivid red tunnel crafted from more than 80,000 linen pieces painted with traditional lacquer. Equally inspiring, restaurant Lu Yu spans two floors and showcases creations from artists and craftspeople around the world – visuals to be savoured alongside Chinese specialities and a staggering selection of teas. The premium steakhouse 29 Grill and a sleek Lobby Lounge round out the offerings.

Conrad Hangzhou

In curious contrast to China’s many frenetic metropolises defined by glass and concrete – and perhaps even to itself as a tech-forward economic epicentre – Hangzhou is a city synonymous with its slower, more considered pleasures: the serenity of its temples, the taste of its legendary teas, the poetic waters of its Unesco-protected West Lake. Presiding over this urban oasis is Conrad Hangzhou – a 50-storey property that, while it soars above the city, is also intimately a part of it.

Several of Hangzhou’s natural and cultural treasures are reflected in the centrally located hotel, beginning with its architecture: the signature curves of its silhouette mirror the spectacular annual tidal bore of the Qiantang River, on whose banks the hotel stands. Inside, a “Lunar Corona” theme inspired by nearby West Lake is brought to life in the form of tranquil hues and original artworks throughout the light-filled event spaces and 306 guestrooms; travellers seeking expansive vistas over the river and lake can book into one of the 25 suites.

In true Conrad fashion, the crowning glory of the property can be found in its culinary landscape – this time, quite literally. In addition to Blue Willow, a chic casual dining venue, and Jin, a modern tea lounge and bar, Conrad Hangzhou is home to the tallest restaurant in the city; Li’An serves contemporary Chinese and Hangzhounese cuisine in an inviting, living-room-style space on the 50th floor. Right at home atop this alluring city.
