Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía
Spain’s national art museum

First opened in 1990, the Museo Reina Sofia holds a historic national collection of contemporary and 20th century Spanish art. Famous masterpieces by Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso are highlights of the 18,000-item collection, such as Picasso’s Guernica, which was completed in June 1937. Themes explored in exhibitions include 20th century art in ‘Utopias and Conflicts’ (1900-1945), ‘Art in a Divided World’ (1945-1968) and From Revolt to Postmodernity (1962-1982).
