                                Situated on the eastern edge of Tiananmen Square, this cavernous space – one of the Ten Great Constructions built to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the People’s Republic of China – presents some 5000 years of Chinese cultural and artistic heritage. Charting the ancient history of the country through to contemporary times, permanent and travelling collections display relics and remnants of early man in China, such as those of the ‘Yuanmou Man’, plus a mesmerising wealth of bronzeworks, jade, calligraphy, furniture and more.
