Daring, Detailed, Distinctive
At Warren Street Hotel, British designer Kit Kemp brings her colourful style and imaginative visual storytelling to downtown TriBeCa
Vivacious and stylish, sophisticated but never staid, Firmdale Hotels inevitably bring a fresh sense of joie de vivre to the neighbourhoods they inhabit – and the brand’s newest property, Warren Street Hotel in downtown TriBeCa, is no exception. When it opened in March 2024, Warren Street Hotel joined its sister properties, Crosby Street in SoHo and The Whitby in Midtown, as the third Firmdale outpost in the Big Apple to import the unique vision of London-based design icon Kit Kemp, who has made her mark mixing bright hues, bold patterns and textural fabrics to spectacular effect.

At Warren Street Hotel, Kit has outdone herself. The property, cutting a striking figure with a robin’s-egg-blue exterior and canary-yellow top, is a joyful, thoughtful celebration of colour and contemporary design, both inside and out. Every carefully considered detail is tailored to provide an adventure for the eye, from the sculptural light fixtures and room-height, industrial-style windows to the 700 pieces of specially commissioned artworks and handcrafted creations by Kit Kemp Design Studio. Specially selected fabrics, including Kit’s latest collaborations with Christopher Farr Cloth and GP&J Baker, pay homage to TriBeCa’s heritage as New York City’s 19th-century textile hub. “We have sought out and commissioned our favourite artists and sculptors to create original pieces,” says Kit, “and curated the very best from our own collections dreamt up in our design studio to fashion a very individual ambience that feels exciting and exclusive to our third New York hotel.”
The 69 individually designed guest rooms and suites are a testament to this fact, all fashioned in Kit’s inimitable aesthetic with unexpected treasures revealing themselves at every turn. Intricately embellished headboards complement finely upholstered furniture and whimsical bespoke lighting, while in the bathrooms, fairy-tale patterns inspired by misty morning walks adorn the bath products and influence their scent of pink pepper, cedar wood and patchouli. Several suites boast beautifully landscaped terraces and gardens, with sparkling lights climbing wooden trellises as ferns, cedars and pollinating plants encourage wildlife to visit and thrive.

The public and communal spaces are likewise rich in detail and design. A cosy drawing room beckons with textured furniture, sculptures and collages, as well as a fascinating book collection. A modern brasserie, Warren Street Bar & Restaurant, serves refined dishes with global influences on custom bone china tableware created for Spode by Kit herself. Large artworks, many exclusive to the hotel, line the walls leading from the restaurant into the Orangery, which features illuminated handmade ceramic pots and a captivating collection of British craft. Bathed in natural light from an overhead skylight, the Orangery offers a unique and flexible setting for private events – from intimate dinners to cocktail parties and corporate gatherings – infusing any occasion with distinctive charm.
Reserved for hotel guests only, the crowning glory of Warren Street Hotel is its stunning Rooftop Terrace, an exclusive retreat in which to lounge on plush armchairs and enjoy a light bite or sundown drink accompanied by sweeping views of downtown Manhattan.
