Hotel Skeppsholmen
History-steeped islet getaway

What was once a 17th-century royal marine barracks in Skeppsholmen, a lush islet in the heart of the Swedish capital, has been repurposed into this stylish, 82-room hotel. Created by design firm Claesson Koivisto Rune, the two long, low-slung ochre edifices marry the building’s unmistakable institutional heritage (think stone staircases and wooden shutters) with minimalist, modern amenities, including Duxiana beds and drench showers, all amid a leafy, waterlogged idyll.
