Though long numbered among Germany's most prominent art museums, the museum’s recent high profile has more to do with Norman Foster's EUR 60 million involvement in the restoration of the historic building and addition of a flashy new wing. Lenbachhaus harbours an eminent collection of works from the expressionist Blue Rider group, as well as a considerable display of Munich's foremost painters and a large array of contemporary art. Make time for a coffee at Ella, the only restaurant that can brag about views of the Königsplatz square.
