The finest European fabric makers
The European tradition in manufacturing exclusive textiles goes back many centuries. Florentine silks, Swiss embroidery, British wools and Belgian linens are famous all over the world. Fine workmanship, extensive research, innovative technologies, top raw materials and exquisite taste contribute to a never-ending success story. Here are some of Europe's finest.
Antico Setificio Fiorentino
This silk weaver is situated in the heart of Florence on the banks of the Arno, where most traditional craftsman workshops are. Founded in 1780 by noble Florentine families, this remarkable place keeps the art alive. The factory and splendid showroom are locatd in a historic garden, and each corner of this magic place reflects the handicraft tradition of Florentine hands.
The specialities of the unique manufacturer are brocades in silk and linen, damasks and the ‘Ermisino’, a unique, iridescent taffeta from the Renaissance. The extraordinary textiles are still woven on hand looms and semi-mechanical looms from the 18th and 19th century, upon which the master weavers produce for a worldwide clientele that understands the incomparable qualities of these fabrics used for curtains, upholstery and walls. Apart from an immense archive of their own drawings and colours, everything is custom made and personalised.
