German porcelain manufactory opens Villa Meissen in Milan
During the week of the famous Salone del Mobile furniture exhibition in Milan, Meissen introduced a spectacular venue for its new luxury home collection. Villa Meissen, in Casa Carcassola-Grandi, one of the finest Milanese houses, marks a milestone in the 300-year-old history of Meissen. Originally a traditional porcelain manufacturer, the German company has since become an innovative luxury brand. According to Dr Christian Kurtzke, CEO, the most important messages delivered in the Villa are authenticity, style and value.
The historically significant private building has been restored and converted with great attention to detail. The striking entrance portal by the famous Italian architect Giò Ponti and the accomplished ceiling artwork by students of Raphael provide a perfect backdrop for the new home collection. Meissen Home Collectibles are showcased in the hall, living room and dining room, which extend over 350 square metres.
Staged ensembles of timelessly elegant items including handmade sofas, armchairs, tables, fabrics, lamps and porcelain make the location more of an experience than a conventional shop. Markus Hilzinger, the Creative Director of the home collection points out that the artistic and cultural history of the Saxonian company has played a major role in the design process, starting with the fusion of European and oriental design features.
Meissen’s new jewellery collection, introduced at this year's Basel watch fair, as well as its Fine Art objects, have all found a splendid home in the Casa Carcassola-Grandi. Events devoted to art, architecture and design will also be held here in future. Dr Kurtz comments: “The opening of Villa Meissen is a seminal occurrence in our long history. One that reinforces our ambition to be a German luxury brand of international standing.“
