A special-edition One-77 sees Aston Martin try two wheels instead of four

One-77 sees Aston Martin try two wheels instead of four

When the Tour de France starts next Saturday, each of the 150-plus riders will be aboard some of the most technologically advanced bikes ever made. The new One-77 Cycle may just top them, though. This sleek-looking construction is the result of a special collaboration between Aston Martin and Factorbikes, a subsidiary of bf1systems, which supplies “performance engineering solutions” to a range of sports cars, including Formula 1 and IndyCar.

Limited to only 77 units, Aston Martin's One-77 ultra performance bike

Named after the British manufacturer’s limited-edition One-77 sports car, the two-wheeled version will also be limited to just 77 pieces. Prolific use of carbon fibre throughout, including the frame, wheels and handlebars, means that the bike weighs just 7.4kg. A top-of-the-range, race-proven Shimano Di2 shift system is complemented by hydraulic disc brakes and – in what seems like a token ‘luxury’ touch – leather-trimmed handlebars and saddle. LED lights allow its rider to see and be seen during any nocturnal pedalling.

  • Built-in LED's give nigh-time illumination for rides in the dark
  • Back-lit touch-screen bicycle computer that monitors an astounding array of ride information

What really sets the One-77 apart, though, is a quite splendidly over-the-top onboard computer. The back-lit, touch-screeen system is linked to a sensor in each crank and one for speed in the rear wheel as well as a GPS system. And with it, you can measure more or less anything you could ever want to know and plenty more besides, thanks to a ‘channel’ list as long as your arm: power generated by each leg, useful and wasted power, acceleration, altitude, heart rate and temperature, to name but a few.

  • Generous use of carbon fibre including the wheels
  • Hydraulic disc-brake caliper

The One-77 Cycle is scheduled to launch on July 12th at W-One Park Lane, Aston Martin’s new Concept Store in London. It will be available in seven very attractive colour combinations, so while its riders may not quite hit the heights of a Tour de France pro, they will certainly look the part trying.
