Dutch firm Feadship on a winning streak

Dutch firm Feadship on a winning streak

88-metre Feadship motor yacht 'Musashi' named Best Custom Built Yacht at the Asia Boating Awards

At the World Superyacht Awards, the Oscars of the yachting industry held in Istanbul on May 5th, Dutch shipbuilder Feadship was the only firm to win three awards in one night, receiving prizes for two superb builds.

45-metre Feadship superyacht 'Helix' awarded the best among displacement yachts below 500 GT at the World Superyacht Awards

Among the winners is 45-metre Helix, built at the Royal Van Lent shipyard in 2011. The exclusive custom series yacht, which is presently touring the Far East from Honk Kong to Hainan, Singapore and Jakarta, took the top award among displacement yachts below 500 GT. The hull, superstructure, bulkhead and exterior styling are set, and the equipment portfolio is pre-set in the F45 Vantage program.

The idea behind it was to offer a highly flexible, semi-custom product without stepping back in terms of the hallmark quality of a Feadship.

Feadship's 77.7-metre motor yacht 'Tango' won Motor Yacht of the Year and placed at the top of the 'Displacement Motor Yacht between 1,300 to 2,999 GT' category at the World Superyacht Awards

Helix is followed by 77.7-metre full custom motor yacht Tango, which took home two awards. First, she won in the category Displacement Motor Yacht between 1,300 to 2,999 GT, taking – as the judging panel reported – "the styling of large superyachts a step forward, combining a new and elegant appearance with supreme engineering and construction." The craft was also honoured with the Motor Yacht of the Year distinction as well, as the judges were impressed by her bold new exterior style, superb quality of construction and stylish yet highly comfortable interior spaces.

Feadship's history began in 1949 when Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw, Royal Van Lent shipyard and De Voogt Naval Architects joined forces

Feadship, an acronym for 'First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders', is a conglomerate of three family-operated brands that have worked together since 1949. The decision to come together marked the joining of three of the biggest names in yachting: Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw, Royal Van Lent shipyard and De Voogt Naval Architects. The joint profile was considered the best way to export their premium quality to the world.

It seems to have paid off. At the Asia Boating Awards only five days after the triumph in Istanbul, 88-metre motor yacht Musashi, built at the De Vries shipyard, was named Best Custom Built Yacht. If their current winning streak is any proof, then working together under the name of Feadship was – and is – the right decision.
