Riedel's Cobra Verde decanter doubles as design object

Limited edition Cobra Verde decanter by Riedel

Illustrious glassmaker Riedel once again proves it’s ahead of the curve with the release of a limited edition, colourfully curvaceous decanter. The exquisite Cobra Verde marks the first time in its 250-year history that Riedel has created a decanter designed especially for magnum-sized wine bottles.

More objet d'art than decanter, this exquisite mouth-blown glassware is made of Venetian crystal and contains a velvety green ribbon of colour that ripples along the decanter and winds from its spout to its base. The snake-like shape and coiled base, intended to evoke the majestic striking stance of a cobra, produce a double-decanting affect that significantly accelerates the aeration process for aged and cellared wines.

The decanter was specially designed to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the reopening of Riedel’s headquarters in Kufstein, Austria. Only 555 of the stunning serpentine pieces were made, and each bears the reproduced signature of Claus J. Riedel, the ninth-generation glassmaker who reopened the factory. One of the company’s most acclaimed visionaries, it was Claus who developed the world’s first varietal-specific glassware in 1958.

Each Cobra Verde comes encased in a luxurious wooden box designed to protect its precious cargo.
