Porto Montenegro on the Adriatic Sea

With an average of 240 days of sunshine per annum and with the intimate, unpretentious and unmistakably elegant Porto Montenegro Village constantly evolving, including a spectacular luxury waterfront Regent hotel due to open in summer 2014, Porto Montenegro is to be considered the chicest hub in the Balkans already. From an abandoned former Yugoslavian naval base, the region around the medieval city of Kotor is qualifying to become one of the most frequented marina destinations – owning all of the ingredients needed to create one of the most exclusive playgrounds for yachtsmen year-round.

The city of Perast on the Bay of Kotor

Situated in the Venice-Corfu leg of the Adriatic Sea among impressive limestone cliffs, the marina enjoys some of the deepest water and most beautiful, dramatic scenery in the Mediterranean. Often described as Europe’s southernmost fjord, this submerged river canyon is a geological marvel of natural splendour enhanced by ancient architecture.

Such is its beauty that the Bay of Kotor was the summer retreat of former ruler Tito, who kept his marine base and fleet of private yachts here.

Today, Montenegro is a stable democracy. Still one of the youngest countries in the world, it gained independence in 2006 and uses the euro as its main currency. The marina currently offers 200 births for yachts ranging from 12 metres up to 150 – plus all of the amenities, including tree-lined promenades, bustling luxury shopping streets and fine dining. Purobeach, a restaurant/lounge/nighttime hot spot, will officially open on June 30th to become one of the best beach clubs, comparable to Nammos in Mykonos or St. Tropez's Nikki Beach.

The man behind the project is daring Canadian investor Peter Munk, who had a vision when he first flew over the Gulf of Kotor back in 2004. “I was stunned by what I saw," he said. So are we, and we're keen to see the further developments.
