Bags Of Style #6
Hester van Eeghen, Transistor
Brand new from her upcoming 2011 Fall/Winter collection, bold, geometric structure takes centre stage on the Transistor bag by Hester van Eeghen. Inspired by the angular lines of the transistor radio her father often listened to when she was a child, the design also features the vibrant minimalism present in so many of Eeghen's pieces, as well as her take on one of the strongest current trends, colour blocking.
Handcrafted in Italy of soft Italian calfskin leather, the Transistor opens by unfolding a little like an accordion, with the front and back sections made of solid frames joined by flexible folded leather side panels. The unique structure is surprisingly intuitive and creates an interesting triangle silhouette from the profile view.
Available in three colour schemes, the colour blocking effect is actually semi-optional as the bag is designed to be flipped around so the solid back (matching the flap) becomes the front. The bag also features a detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap long enough for cross-body wear, and – because Eeghen loves organization – an interior divided into three compartments. Other specifications include visible stitching trim detail, magnetic snap closure and a fine textile lining in bright colours.
Fun but sophisticated, the Transistor looks a little like a briefcase/shoulder bag hybrid and would be equally at home going to the office or out to lunch with the girls.
