Centurions rate their top South American destinations
The usual suspects – Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Santiago – should beware: when Centurions were asked to sound off on which South American city tops their must-visit bucket list, these key players lagged far behind Cartagena, the charming Colombian town with copious UNESCO landmarks who won with 23% of the vote. The historic Peruvian city of Cuzco comes in second at 19%, a not-too-shabby finish for the gateway to Machu Picchu and the former capital of the Incan Empire.

When asked which city in Africa and the Middle East they'd most like to visit, Centurion readers seemed drawn to Cape Town – South Africa's touristic jewel best known for its rugged natural beauty, diverse culture and epicurean delights. Clocking in at second place was the dramatic and glittering Dubai, followed closely by Marrakech and its Arabian Nights mystique. Beirut, on the other hand, was a popular city among the 7% who chose "other". Istanbul made a showing, too – but whether Turkey's up-and-coming capital is in Europe or the Middle East is a question for another time.
Now, take a moment to sound off on the newest survey: which sizzling South American city is calling your name?
