History meets the contemporary on Sentosa Island

A stand-out on the shores of resort-speckled Sentosa Island, this six-year-old retreat is a colonial/contemporary amalgam. Here, curved, modern buildings by Fosters + Partners rest side by side with a pair of colonial bungalows dating back to the 19th century, a dichotomy visible throughout the property’s 12 hectares. With their clean lines, dark furniture, plush silk fabrics and soft grey walls, the hotel’s 112 meditative rooms, suites and manors are understated yet decorously elegant, an atmosphere echoed in the lattice-work screens and arched lanterns at the über-sophisticated Andre Wu-designed Cassia restaurant.
